Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan and Alia Bhatt are part of Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra.

Ranbir Kapoor has an interesting year ahead. If playing Sanjay Dutt in Sanju is not enough, he is also set to do something he has never tried before – Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra. The film also starring Amitabh Bachchan and Alia Bhatt, Brahmastra was speculated to be a superhero story with Ranbir (maybe) putting on a spandex suit.

Only, like most speculation, that is not true. Ranbir, during promotions of Sanju, revealed to Mid-Day, “It is actually a supernatural romantic fairy tale at heart. Ayan will never make a character that doesn’t have truth to it, or which is unbelievable. It’s too early to talk about the film, but it is something I am terribly excited about.”

Ranbir also confirmed Brahmastra is a trilogy and he will do the three films in 10 years. “Apart from being my best friend and my favourite director, Ayan has worked on this film for six years. He is going to spend the next 10 years of his life on this trilogy. So when the first part is complete, the audience will know it’s not the end. That is something really exciting for me as an actor,” he said.

Ranbir and Alia are also dating, a confession made by Ranbir in a recent interview to GQ magazine. “It’s really new right now, and I don’t want to over speak. It needs time to breathe and it needs space. As an actor, as a person, Alia is – what’s the right word? – flowing right now. When I see her work, when I see her act, even in life, what she gives is something that I’m aspiring to for myself. It’s new for us, so let it cook a bit,” he had said.

The film is expected to release on Independence Day in 2019.
