Rani Mukerji on playing foul-mouthed scribe

Rani Mukerji, who's all set to dazzle the audience with her controversial role of a journalist in No One Killed Jessica, is courting controversy due to her smoking scene in the movie.

Rani Mukerji, the once reigning queen of Bollywood, is back with a power-packed role in her upcoming movie No One Killed Jessica. The actor is all set to dazzle the audience with her controversial role of a journalist. However, she is now courting controversy due to her smoking scene and abusive dialogues in the movie, which Rani says is “a part of my character”.

Unfazed by the constant media glare and the critics, Rani, in a quick chit chat said, “I don’t endorse smoking at all. But my director wanted me to play a certain role and as an actor, I believe in living up to the character I am playing on screen. Personally, I don't smoke and I wouldn’t set a wrong example for the youth. I do believe that today’s youth are educated enough not to be midlessly influenced by celebrities."

Her last movie Dil Bole Hadippa with Shahid Kapur wasn’t quite a hit, but Rani is quite excited about this film, "The entire team has worked hard on the film and we of course want it to do well." She however, doesn’t agree that being a journalist, she has to abuse, "It’s just a character and I played it. So this issue is actually redundant."

About her first meeting with the director of No One killed Jessica, Rajkumar Gupta, she says, “When I walked into the meeting, my manager and my lawyer had heard two tracks from the film and seemed really excited about it. That day, Rajkumar Gupta could only narrate the first half and he thought I would not be doing the film after that narration got over. I don’t know why I have this reputation.”
