‘Stereotyping is okay, as long you’re not being limited’

Says Arunoday Singh who plans on using his NRI-with-six-pack image to his advantage. Read on to know how.

Even though Arunoday Singh made his debut with Prakash Jha’s Sikander in 2008, he owes a lot to Sudhir Mishra. His next film releases today — Vinay Shukla’s Mirch. Singh, who is now three films old, finally earned himself work with Mishra in Yeh Saali Zindagi.

Recollecting how he bagged his debut, he says, “I went to see Sudhir when Sikander was being cast and Piyush happened to be there at his office. He liked my look and the role had just opened up.”

Though Singh is well aware of the fact that he stands a tall chance of getting stereotyped in the NRI-guy-with-a-six pack category, he plans on cashing in on it, instead of fighting it. “If you get a script that has potential for you and you’re lucky to have been offered it because of your stereotype then why not take it and enhance it,” explains Singh, whose role in Mirch is of a struggling film writer who writes a film about adultery and sexual relations, just to sell his work. “It was the wit that Vinay had about the film that hooked me on to it.”

Though he enjoyed his stint in Aisha, he doubts he’ll play that role again, unless the script is exceptional. “No one wants to work their way up from the side. But someone should think you’re worthy right?”

As for now, he has nothing after Yeh Saali Zindagi. “Nothing seems to go right and all the roles seem to similar to Aisha, the point is to try something new. And act till I die,” says he, in jest.
