Five hilarious tales of nervous bridegrooms who almost busted their weddings. Read what they did.

Ex-girlfriends as bridesmaids?
Raghav Sachar, Musician

My wedding was a 10-day-long affair with several functions, on almost a daily basis. I was nervous about finally settling down, and I got super drunk at two events: The cocktails and the sangeet.

It was then that I told my fiancée, Amita, that since there were so many functions, we might as well add another one, featuring all my ex-girlfriends dressed as bridesmaids and presenting Amita with a trophy for finally getting me to marry.
Amita wasn’t amused.

A boy and his close shave with grooming
Gurmeet Choudhary, Actor

I was just 18 when I married Debina five years ago. One of my friends suggested that I grow a beard so I’d look older than my age. So I did. But other friends weren’t happy with my bearded look and told me I should shave. As D-Day approached, my nervousness about the beard increased, and I shaved it off by mistake. When I reached the temple, I looked like a 13-year-old. Debina was livid!

When the couple snuck out to party
Kinshuk Mahajan, Actor

Before my wedding, I threw a bachelor party for my friends. To add some zing, I convinced my fiancée, Divya, to sneak out of her house and meet us. We all got very drunk, and forgot about our wedding the next day. Driving Divya back and helping her get back to her room was a task. It felt as though we’re eloping!

Small consolation: DJ nights without the bride
Himmanshoo Malhotra, Actor

For the ring ceremony, I’d asked my friends to prepare a dance item each, and got totally involved in the practice. As soon as the exchange of rings took place, I rushed to the DJ console for my friends’ performances. It didn’t strike me, till I was at the console, that I’d left my fiancée, Amruta, all alone on the stage with guests waiting to congratulate us.

The groom who wanted to be daler at the mehndi
Ravi Dubey, Actor

I was in Delhi for my wedding, and my fiancée, Sargun, was in Chandigarh. Sargun’s family traditions meant that no one from the groom’s side could be part of the mehendi. However, in the evening, I decided I had to meet Sargun on her mehendi, come what may. So my friends and I drove from Delhi to Chandigarh. Then we drove right back to Delhi so I could attend a 7 am puja, after which was my own mehendi.
