Scott Forstall, who leads Apple's iOS development, said that BMW, General Motors, Mercedes, Land Rover, Jaguar, Audi, Toyota, Chrysler, and Honda were the car manufacturers that would implement it.

According to Discovery News, Apple announced the move at its Worldwide Developer Conference.

Apple says on its iOS 6 website that Siri system, that will link to cars via an iPhone, will be ‘eyes free’, to prevent users from being distracted while driving.

The phone''s screen won''t light up when a voice command is received, for example.

According to the report, an interesting addition to iOS 6 will be Apple''s mapping app, the company plans to dispense with Google Maps.

The data was collected last year, when Apple encountered some resistance from users who were concerned about being tracked via their iPhones.

Apple said it wanted the data to build a map application by crowdsourcing the data, using the locations of WI-Fi hotspots.
