With the four-day strike coming to an end at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) on Thursday evening, the ministry of shipping is set to draft a policy on the lines of Maharashtra government’s resettlement and rehabilitation (R&R) policy for the oustees, who were affected during the setting up of JNPT in the eighties.
"We'll be adopting the same scheme of Maharashtra government and once the draft is final, it will be sent to the competent authority for approval," a ministry source told Hindustan Times.
It may take six months to complete the draft, said ministry sources.
Demanding developed land in lieu of the land taken from farmers and land owners by the port trust for building JNPT, the operations at the India's largest state-owned port came to a standstill for four days. It was only after the intervention and an assurance from Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, the strike was called-off on Thursday evening.
"The partial working at JNPT started from 8 pm and normal functioning from 11 pm yesterday," a JNPT source said.
According to the JNPT source, JNPT chairman L Radhakrishnan will have a meeting with the union leaders on Saturday.
