Cyrus Poonawalla biggest gainer among Indian billionaires in 2015

Not all billionaires made money in 2015, though nobody lost as much as Hanjoerg Wyss of Switzerland. Wyss saw 52% of his networth eroded. Hong Kong’s Lui Che Woo, who has stakes in casino operator Galaxy Entertainment, was the second-biggest loser. He lost 46% of his networth.

Back home, Pallonji Mistry, promoter of Shapoorji Paloonji Group, lost 12% of his networth. Dilip Shanghvi of Sun Pharma also saw a 6% decline in networth, according to the Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index.

The list of gainers in India is led by Cyrus Poonawalla, promoter and chairman of Serum Institute of India. He added $4.8 billion and almost doubled his networth in 2015, increasing it by 92% to reach $10.1 billion, according to the report.

The other Indians to witness an increase in net worth was Kotak Mahindra Bank’s Uday Kotak, with a $0.5 billion or 7% increase, and Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) with a 1.3% of increase in networth.

Lens Technology chairman Zhou Qufei, China’s richest woman entrepreneur, saw the highest growth in net worth among billionaires globally. Her empire grew 247% to $7.7 billion.

Hui Ka Yan, chairman of Chinese real estate major Evergrande group, secured the third slot with a doubled growth in networth to $9.7 billion.
