Ford India clocks 184 pc sales growth in 2010

Driven by its successful compact car Figo, US auto maker Ford India has reported 184 per cent growth in sales in 2010.

Driven by its successful compact car Figo, US auto maker Ford India has reported 184 per cent growth in sales in 2010.

The company has sold 83,887 units during the period January-December 2010 against 29,488 units last year, clocking growth of 184 per cent, Ford India on said in a statement.

In December 2010, the company's sales grew by 172 per cent as against December 2009, it said.

In December 2010, Figo was selected as Indian Car of the Year 2011, while it was awarded the Best Premium Hatch and ET Zigwheels Car of the Year 2010, it said.

"This has been an outstanding year for Ford in India with nearly triple digit growth sales. It is also extremely encouraging to see the Figo sweep many prestigious industry awards and it is gratifying to see so many Figos on India's roads...", Ford India Managing Director Michael Boneham.

The company said since the launch of Figo in March 2010, the company had sold more than 60,000 units in India. The company had also increased the dealer network to 170 across 100 cities in India, the statement added.
