The Vibrant Gujarat Summit, to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 11, is set to be a global event with participation of United Nations secretary-general Ban Ki-moon, US secretary of state John Kerry, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Grueveski and senior ministers from the UK, Singapore, Australia, Japan, France, Netherlands and Canada.
Besides, CEOs and presidents of global companies including Suzuki, Vodafone, Ford, Honda, Intel and Morgan Stanley, British Gas, and World Bank president Jim Yong Kim will also attend the event. Captains of Indian industry will be present as well.
“This will be the biggest and largest Vibrant Gujarat summit with presence of global CEOs, policy makers and political leaders,” Gujarat chief secretary J Pandian said.
Defence minister Manohar Parrikar, finance minister Arun Jaitley and chief ministers from half a dozen states will also attend the event, which is likely to see deliberations on framing new industrial and investment-related policies.
Modi will ask global companies to join the government’s flagship ‘Make in India’ programme during the two-day summit. The Prime Minister will also host a dinner for visiting guests at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University in Gandhinagar.
This is the seventh summit organised by the Gujarat government. It was launched in 2003 by the then chief minister Narendra Modi.
