In a clear message to Tecom,the Dubai based promoters of Smart City IT project in Kochi, the Kerala government on Monday said it would not succumb to their 'undue' demands.
Tecom was putting up 'undue' demands in the name of providing employment, but this was not acceptable, Kerala Fisheries and Registration Minister and Project Chairman S Sarma said at a function in Kochi.
He said financial constraints could be reason for the delay in the implementation of the project,foundation stone of which was laid by Chief Minister VS Achutanandan in 2007.
Tecom's demand for freehold in 39 acres of the land out of the total 246 acres alloted to the project, was not acceptable.Coming out with such a demand even before the masterplan was ready, cannot be agreed to and was 'untimely', he said.
The Tecom CEO Fareed Abdulrahman had in April this year made it clear that they had not pulled back its personnel from the project but had put on hold additional recruitment of human resources until the freehold land issue was resolved.
Though the company had identified its office space at Vazhakala in December, it was yet to set up its office.
