HP India, which claims a 90 per cent-plus share of the colour laser segment in the country, said it would offer affordable solutions to help reduce the gap between mono and colour printing, thus driving and expanding the market shift from 'mono' to 'colour'.

HP, the imaging and printing major, is launching the "first most affordable" colour laser printer, the HP Color LaserJet 2550, at a price of Rs 34,999 onwards, its country category manager (colour lasers and business inkjets) Vibhor Bansal said at a press conference.

Given the customer response and the new products in the marketplace, IDC estimates that the current colour laser printing market at around Rs 50 crore in India is expected to grow to Rs 100 crore by 2007 in value terms, and units to 15,000 from the level of 5,000 might turn out to be "conservative", Bansal said.

Bansal said the company has launched HP Color LaserJet 4650 printer series, HP Color 9850mfp printer and HP Officejet 9100 all-in-one series, to further strengthen its position in the market.
