Public sector Indian Bank has baggedthe Best Bank Award from the Government of Tamil Nadu for its support to Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the state.

Indian Bank Chairman and Managing Director T M Bhasin received the award from Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa at a function here recently, a bank statement said.

The award was presented to the city-headquartered bank for its performance in extending credit to SHGs in the state, it said.
The bank has reached out to seven lakh self-help groups with an aggregate credit of Rs 10,900 crore, it said.
Indian Bank operates three rural banks in the Southern region, one among which is Pallavan Grama Bank in Tamil Nadu, the statement added.
