The Methodist University Hospital Transplant Institute based in Tennessee in Memphis said Jobs underwent liver transplant at the hospital and is now recovering well.

James D Eason, who is the programme director at Methodist University Hospital Transplant Institute and chief of transplantation, in a statement on Tuesday said that Jobs received a liver transplant at the institute in partnership with the University of Tennessee in Memphis.

The statement noted that Jobs was the “sickest patient” at the time of liver transplant.

“He (Jobs) received a liver transplant because he was the patient with the highest MELD score (Model for End-Stage Liver Disease) of his blood type and, therefore, the sickest patient on the waiting list at the time a donor organ became available.

“Jobs is now recovering well and has an excellent prognosis,” the statement said.

The health of Jobs has been subject of much speculation after the Apple chief went on a six-month long medical leave and last week, media reports said that he received liver transplant.
