The rupee had ended 9 paise higher at 46.01/02 on Tuesday.
Forex dealers said continued capital inflows into equities by foreign funds and dollar's weakness overseas mainly lifted the rupee sentiment.
Meanwhile, the benchmark Sensex rose by nearly 120 points, or 0.70 per cent, to 16,891.85 points in the opening trade.
