The rupee rose by 15 paise to 55.51 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on increased capital inflows amid stronger euro overseas.

Forex dealers said euro strengthened against the dollar after the European Central Bank unveiled a plan to buy the bonds of troubled eurozone nations in a bid to tackle the region's long-running debt crisis.

The rupee ended 25 paise higher at 55.66 against the US dollar on Thursday on heavy dollar sales and fresh capital inflows.

Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark index Sensex jumped 287.09 points, or 1.65%, to 17,633.36.
