On Friday, Mahindra & Mahindra revealed its intention to invest $1.65 billion over the next ten years to enhance its manufacturing presence in Maharashtra, emphasizing its enduring commitment to local production.

This investment encompasses the establishment of the company’s largest integrated manufacturing facility for automobiles and tractors. Mahindra indicated that production at this facility is anticipated to commence in 2028.

Alongside vehicle assembly, Mahindra aims to produce powertrains and electric vehicles at the new facility. The company also plans to establish a local supplier ecosystem to bolster the forthcoming plant and its current manufacturing operations.

This initiative is in line with Mahindra's overarching strategy to enhance localization, diminish reliance on supply chains, and support its expanding electric vehicle portfolio.

Sales performance

The manufacturer has indicated a robust sales trend in the past few quarters, fueled by the demand for its sport-utility vehicles and tractors.

In January, Mahindra experienced a 24 per cent increase in total vehicle sales compared to the previous year, amounting to 104,309 units. This figure encompasses sales of 63,510 utility vehicles and 38,484 tractors. To date in fiscal year 2026, the company has seen a 19 per cent rise in sales, marking the highest growth rate among leading car manufacturers in India.
