The information was submitted by AK Bhandari, registrar, PU, during the resumed hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by a city resident, Rajinder Kumar Singla.

The petitioner had approached the high court last year seeking directions to the PU to fill up teaching and non-teaching posts in the university as well as its affiliated colleges.

It was on November 13, 2013, that the high court had directed the PU to expeditiously fill up as many as 797 vacant posts of teaching staff.

The court had on April 11 ordered, “We are of the view that every endeavour should be made to fill up the posts in such a time schedule that at least when the university reopens after the summer recess (on July 7), so far as possible, most of the posts are occupied.”

It was also submitted that interviews for filling up of 12 assistant professors’ posts in chemistry and zoology departments were scheduled from July 21-24 and August 4 to 7, respectively.
