24-year-old crushed to death near Kalagram

In the fourth fatal accident on the stretch leading to the railway light point in less than a fortnight, a 24-year-old physiotherapist was crushed to death by the bus of a private college between Kalagram and the signal on Tuesday morning.

In the fourth fatal accident on the stretch leading to the railway light point in less than a fortnight, a 24-year-old physiotherapist was crushed to death by the bus of a private college between Kalagram and the signal on Tuesday morning.

The victim has been identified as Yamini Lamba, a native of Hisar in Haryana. She was putting up at at Sector-7 Panchkula and was working with a private practitioner in Sector 19.

Police sources claimed that the victim lost control of her vehicle while trying to overtake a cyclist, collided with the bus and her head was crushed under the rear tyres of the bus of Chitkara Group of Colleges (PB-11-AB-6735).

DSP (east) Parminder Singh said the woman was going towards Chandigarh from the housing board light point and was wearing a helmet, but could not be saved.

Passersby informed the police and the woman was rushed to the advanced trauma centre at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Institution and Research (PGIMER), where doctors declared her brought dead.

The accused driver, Lakhwinder Singh, a resident of Patiala, was arrested from the spot and a case has been registered against him for causing death due to rash and negligent driving.

In another incident, a Haryana Roadways bus hit a cyclist opposite Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Sector 32 on the Dakshin Marg. Sources said that the bus driver before hitting the cyclist also rammed into an auto rickshaw.

The cyclist suffered minor injuries.
