Following the death of the child, identified as Dev Kumar, son of Gautam Kumar (resident of house number 733), a large number of people gathered outside the house and protested against the health department and the municipal corporation.

The victim’s mother Vidya claimed that her son had contracted the disease on Monday.

A visit to the Ram Darbar area revealed that around 30 patients suffering from acute diarrohea were admitted to the ESIC (Employees’ State Insurance Corporation) Model Hospital, with the majority being treated in the emergency ward of the hospital.

A large number of patients were also being treated at the out patient department. Sources in the hospital said two of the four admitted patients were critical and required to be admitted to super-specialty hospitals, including a four-monthold boy, Amar Raj.

The infant has had diarrhoea for over a week and was brought to the ESIC Model Hospital on Tuesday morning.
A labourer Vasudev (24) was diagnosed with the disease four days ago.

Sources said nine patients with acute diarrhoea have been admitted to the GMCH, Sector 32, with three samples being tested for cholera.
