An army official says Indian soldiers have killed four suspected rebels near the military line dividing Kashmir between India and Pakistan.
Lt. Col. Ankur Vashist said on Saturday that six armed militants entered Indian-controlled Kashmir and four were killed in a gun battle in the Keran region late Friday.
He said the two other suspected rebels returned to the Pakistan-controlled portion of Kashmir. There was no independent confirmation of the incident.
More than 68,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed since rebel groups began fighting Indian forces in 1989.
