The Transplant Games 2014 held at the PGIMER grounds saw over 300 participants on Sunday. Bollywood film actor Rishi Kapoor, the chief guest at the event, also pledged to donate his organs.
He addressed the gathering and appealed to the general public to come forward for this noble cause and donate organs after death.
Transplant recipients came from far off places like Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Manipur, Jarkhand and Odisha to participate in the games, which were conceptualised to showcase the safety and success of transplantation as a means to a normal life and to spread awareness of kidney donation.
Along with the recipients, kidney donors too participated in all the events.
The games were organised by the Organ Transplantation Trust , Department of Transplant Surgery, PGIMER, to increase public awareness and to spread the message of organ donation.
The event saw doctors highlight the huge gap between the requirements of transplantation, estimated at 200,000 a year and the number of transplants being done, which is around 6,000.
The sports and contests included cricket, walking, 100 meters dash, badminton, carom, tug of war and 400m relay race. The event saw a cricket match between the PGIMER and a team from Fortis Hospital.

Professor Mukut Minz advised transplant patients to live life a normal life. Eminent nephrologist Dr KS Chugh delivered a special message to the audience.
