The Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday issued notices to the Punjab government on four bail petitions filed by the accused in the multi-crore Bhola drug racket case.
The bail petitions listed were of Maninder Singh alias Bittu Aulakh, Dev Raj alias Dev Behl, Davinder Kant Sharma and Tarsem Singh, all accused in the drug-related cases registered in different places in the state. The high court issued notice to the Punjab government on these petitions for April 22.
The petitions of Bittu Aulakh and Dev Behl have been sent back by the Supreme Court to the high court in February, directing it to constitute a bench for the hearing of all drug-related cases in the high court.
The petitions were heard by the division bench of justice AK Mittal and justice Rekha Mittal, which is also hearing the main petition in the drug case.
The main drug case, wherein the high court has sought status reports from the Enforcement Directorate and the Punjab government on their investigations so far, comes up for hearing on April 20. The transfer case of key ED official Niranjan Singh will also be heard on April 20. During the last hearing, Singh had opposed his transfer orders.
The drug racket case is being investigated by the Punjab police and the high court is monitoring the probe. The ED has launched a parallel investigation to probe the money laundering allegations in the drug scam.
