A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Jatinder Singh Khurdban on Friday announced to contest as an Independent from Ladwa assembly constituency in Kurukshetra.
Khurdban, known as Kaka in the political circles, told HT on phone that he would not resign from the party and the state leadership may expel him, if desired.
“I have no grudge against any BJP leader. As my supporters today insisted me to contest as independent, I accepted it,” said Kaka, who had unsuccessfully contested the 2004 Lok Sabha election from Kurukshetra as Haryana Vikas Party candidate.
A moneyed industrialist, Kaka had joined the BJP before the Lok Sabha elections with a hope to get BJP ticket for Kurukshetra parliamentary segment. Kaka said he hoped to be preferred for assembly but was hurt at the party’s decision to ignore him.
The BJP has fielded a senior RSS activist and educationist Pawan Saini from Ladwa.
Meanwhile, another BJP leader Suresh Gupta Madlauda, who had also recently quit the Congress to join the party, also hinted at contesting election as Independent. Gupta said he would get feedback from his supporters on the issue of contesting in the next 2-3 days.
A resident of Panipat district, Madlauda was member of All India Congress Committee (AICC) and known as a key member of the anti-Bhupinder Singh Hooda group comprising of Kumari Selja and Birender Singh (now the BJP leader) and others. During his Congress days, Madlauda had started hectic political activities to contest from Karnal assembly constituency.

He had followed Birender Singh but failed to get from Karnal or Panipat Rural segments. Madlauda had contested 2001 assembly elections as the Congress candidate from Karnal but his election deposit fee was forfeited.
