A gang of burglars targeted at least five houses in New Sundar Nagar, Lohara Road, on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, and decamped with cash and mobile phones. The locals informed the Daba police, who reached the spot and initiated investigation.
Usha of New Sundar Nagar said she came to know about the burglary on Wednesday morning, when she could not find her mobile phone that she had put on charging before going to sleep. The woman said she had bought the phone worth ₹10,000 on instalments, of which she had paid only one.
She said the burglars scaled the boundary wall to enter the house.
She said the accused also stole the handbag of her neighbour, Manju, from her room. Manju said the handbag contained ₹2,700 cash. She said the accused also stole ₹300 from her mother Urmila’s purse.
Another resident, Mishri Lal, a vegetable vendor, said he had hung his pants containing ₹7,000 cash on a hook in his room before going to sleep on Tuesday night. “When I woke up on Wednesday, the pants were gone,” he said.
The burglars also broke into the house of a workshop owner, Chanan Singh, and stole his mobile phone. Chanan’s son, Ankush, said the commotion woke him up and he hit the burglar with a wooden stool on his back, but the accused managed to escape.

Only one complaint received: Cops
Daba station house officer sub-inspector Ravinder Pal Singh said, “ We have received a complaint from New Sundar Nagar. We are investigating the matter and will register a case soon.”
Meanwhile, local Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sandeep Shukla said incidents of burglary are on the rise in the area. “Despite repeated complaints, the police do not take any strong action,” he said.
Chemist shop targeted at Tibba Road
Three burglars targeted a medical store in Mayapuri at Tibba Road and decamped with ₹60,000 cash and an LCD television on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
Pankaj Kumar, owner of Bassi Medical Store, said he came to know about the incident on Wednesday morning, when a neighbour telephoned him. He said he rushed to the shop and found the locks of the shutter broken and ₹60,000 and an LCD TV missing, following which he informed the police.
Kumar said the footage of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed outside the shop showed that three masked men came in a pick-up truck, broke open the shutter locks before stealing the goods and escaping within minutes.
On being informed, the Tibba police initiated investigation after reaching the spot. The police have been scanning the CCTV footage of the area to identify the accused.
Tibba station house officer inspector Satpal Singh said, “A case under Sections 457 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night in order to commit offence) and 380 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the accused. They will be arrested soon,” he said.
