The UT administration has reduced the fare of air-conditioned Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) buses. The fares of the normal CTU buses, however, remain unchanged.
The UT administration had revised the fares of the CTU buses in September last year. As per the new rates, if a passenger travels in an AC bus up to 3 km, the minimum fare is Rs 10, which was Rs 15 earlier. For travel up to 10 km, the commuter will pay Rs 15 instead of Rs 20, and for more than 10 km, the fare would be Rs 20 instead of Rs 25.
The administration has also reduced the rate for the bus passes for the daily passengers. Now, by shelling out Rs 40 for the pass, a city resident can travel the entire day in any bus. With the bus pass, the passengers can travel in areas of the tricity falling under the MC jurisdiction.
Moreover, if a passenger has daily or monthly pass of a non-AC bus, then he or she can travel in the AC bus the entire day by just paying Rs 10 extra. The monthly pass rate for the AC buses too has been slashed.
Earlier, the passengers had to Pay Rs 1,000 for a monthly AC bus pass, but now the administration will charge only Rs 720 and Rs 30 for the smart card.
Students can now avail 50% discount for travel in the CTU buses. The students of schools and colleges approved by the UT administration can get the monthly pass for non-AC buses by paying Rs 100. In case the students want to travel by the AC bus, then they will get 50% discount on the ticket. A discount of 50% has also been offered for the monthly pass of children between 3 and 12 years of age.
