With the country's unemployment rate estimated to be at 4.7%, Sikkim has been found to be having maximum unemployment rate (13.6%), while Chhattisgarh (3.3) has the lowest unemployment rate across the country.
The union ministry of labour and employment on Thursday released its Labour Bureau report. Sikkim is followed by Arunachal Pradesh at 13% in 2012-13.
In the country's north, insurgency-infested Jammu and Kashmir witnesses 8.8% unemployment rate, as compared to Punjab's 4.8, Haryana 4.3, Himachal Pradesh 6.3 and the union territory of Chandigarh 5.6, stated the survey report released at a press conference here.
The last year's figure of the Labour Bureau's annual report (2011-12) was 3.8%.The report also says that the unemployment rate among females is higher at 7.2% as compared to 4% among the males in the country.
It pointed out that the unemployment rate in rural areas remained at 4.4% against 6.7% in urban areas during 2012-13.
Releasing the report, Labour Bureau director general Daljeet Singh said female work participation ratio in the country is estimated at 20.9% only as compared to 73.5% of the males.
"The report is a result of survey of 1.3 lakh households in the country in all sates comprising 82,624 households in the rural sector and 50,730 households in the urban sector," he said.

{{/usCountry}}The labour force estimates are derived for the persons aged 15 years and above. Around `15 crore was spent on the exercise, he added.
The report also says that a majority of the employed persons were found to be self-employed across the country. As many as 48.9% persons were estimated to be self-employed followed by 17.4% under wage or salary earners and rest 34.4% persons were the contract workers and casual labour.
The report also underlines that the unemployment rate is the highest among general category at 5.6% followed by scheduled castes at 4.5%, OBCs at 4.4% and scheduled tribes at 3.6%in the country.
