In a press release issued here, the party state secretary Inderjit Singh said such regressive views had also been aired by the self-styled caste panchayats.

Denouncing such anti- women sentiments, the party said comments of Chautala were totally baseless and far from truth.

Inderjit said: "By holding the existing marriageable age limit responsible for the rapes that amount to justifying the horrible crimes against women, Chautala is encouraging the culprits."

The party state secretary said Chautala was a constitutional office and should have given some thought before commenting on the extremely sensitive matter. Congress leaders in Haryana were already indulging into such diversionary tactics and now Chautala has also joined them.

The party has appealed to all progressive and justice loving citizens to actively come forward and play a comprehensive role in making the law enforcing agencies to act and assure security to women.
