Setting his own house on fire, a 23-year-old man allegedly tried to push his handicapped father into the fire in Sector 4, Panchkula, on Thursday.

The incident took place around 12:30pm. The alleged accused is identified as Sagar. His father, Charanjit, has sustained minor burn injuries.

Talking to mediapersons, Charanjit said he is unemployed while his wife Shushma, who works as a nurse at the residence of an elderly couple, is the lone bread winner of the family.

He stated that Sagar, who dropped out of the school after Class 7, forcibly take money from them to meet his daily needs. Sagar had an altercation with Charanjit on Thursday morning after he refused to give him money. Charanjit told police that Sagar threatened to set the house, and his father, on fire. Not taking the threat seriously, Charanjit went to the other room.

Agitated Sagar set a sofa lying in the living room on fire, spreading it in the other rooms also. Sagar then allegedly tried to push Charanjit into the fire, but he managed to escape and took refuge in the neighbour's house.
