The police on Tuesday booked an ex-employee of Karnal's Apna Ghar shelter home for raping three inmates in August last year. The police registered the case against Manav Dass, who worked as the general secretary of the shelter home, on a complaint by the father (name withheld) of one of the victims on Tuesday evening.
An incharge of the shelter home has also been booked for conspiring with Dass. On July 30, eleven inmates were shifted from Karnal-based Apna Ghar as it was being run from a place with insufficient space. Later, some inmates alleged that they were often beaten up by Monica and Manav.
A case was registered and the police arrested Manav for beating the shelter home inmates.
Superintendent of police Shashank Anand on Tuesday night said the father, a migrant worker claimed, that his three daughters were staying at Apna Ghar for last few years.
According to the complaint, last year when Monica fell ill, she was unable to look after all the inmates. The three sisters were sent to the house of Manav Dass at Kailash village, near the shelter home. "The complainant father suspect that during that period his minor daughters were sexually abused by Manav at his house," the SP said.
In August last year too, the father had levelled similar charges against Manav. A medical test by the civil administration, however, had ruled out rape, the SP added. After this, the sisters were shifted to Shradha Nand orphanage in the town where they are still residing. The man later did not pursue the matter till he met the director general of women and child welfare on Tuesday and then submitted his complaint to the police. "We will soon get the statements of the alleged rape victims in the court and their detailed medical examination would be done to corroborate the charges," the SP said.
