Former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda, who continued to evade the police for the eighth consecutive day on Monday, had while appointing Geetika Sharma as a director in his company laid the condition that Geetika had to report to the managing director (Kanda) everyday in the evening, the public prosecutor informed a Delhi court here.

The prosecution's statement came on the same day the court extended by three days the police custody of Aruna Chaddha, an aide of Kanda, who along with the former Haryana minister has been accused of abetting the suicide of Geetika Sharma.

A former airhostess in Kanda's now defunct MDLR airlines, Geetika Sharma had committed suicide Sunday last. In her suicide note, she had held Kanda and Chaddha responsible for her taking the extreme step.

The prosecution also claimed that efforts were being made to destroy vital evidence regarding the case. "It has come to our knowledge that since the day Kanda has been absconding, attempts have been made to destroy records of the company (MDLR). So we have to recover them as early as possible with the help of Chaddha," said additional public prosecutor Rajiv Mohan. Additional chief metropolitan magistrate (ACMM) DK Jangala extended Chaddha's police custody, while directing the investigating agency to "swiftly complete the custodial investigation" within the time granted for police remand.

The police said Chaddha is the only person through whom the firm records could be recovered as he was still on the run.
