Cracking a whip on New Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi caterer, the Railways imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on Delhi-based RK Associates after two passengers travelling by train's executive class were served food with a glass piece each in their meals.

The Railways had ordered a probe following a complaint by two passengers. A passenger of coach number 4, Nibha Kewal, in a complaint to the quality food inspector of the Railways on July 21, alleged that a glass piece was found in the food served by a member of the contractor's staff. Another passenger, Gaurav, who boarded the train from Ambala and was in coach number 5, had also made a similar complaint to him in the afternoon.

New Delhi Northern Railway CPRO Neeraj Sharma said, "On the basis of the complaint, a probe was marked against the contractor. Based on which, the Railways have imposed the fine on RK Associates, besides grounding catering manager. We have also issued a warning letter to RK Associates for improving the services."
