Busy campaigning schedules and lack of sleep in the run-up to the April 10 Lok Sabha election in Chandigarh have ensured that the health of local political leaders is under strain most of the time.
This was evident when Hindustan Times interacted with Kirron Kher, BJP’s candidate from, Chandigarh, on Thursday evening. The actor-turned-politician was not feeling well.
“I feel I am being pulled in all directions. I have to speak throughout the day and have a sore throat,” she said.
Aam Aadmi Party candidate Gul Panag, who has been actively campaigning, has a sore throat too.
Jannat Jahan, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BJP) candidate, said, “I have had a sore throat for 15 days. Even the area around my stitches, during my Caesarean procedure last year starts paining when I walk a considerable distance.”
Even veteran Congress leader and incumbent parliamentarian Pawan Kumar Bansal is undergoing
intense campaigning. He can be seen coughing at times at rallies.
His supporters claimed that Bansal gets little time to sleep and wakes up early in the morning as party workers and supporters turn up at his residence to brief him about the day’s schedule, he remains active.

{{/usCountry}}Lack of sleep is a big concern for BJP’s Chandigarh president, Sanjay Tandon. The veteran party leader, who is managing Kher’s election campaign, has dozed off a few times in the middle of a conversation. Tandon said, “I try to catch up on my sleep through power naps, but they are mostly interrupted by a call or something.”
Tandon, who avoids medicines, had to go on strong medication for his sore throat prior to the rally of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, in the city.
