The CBI officials reportedly also had a minor scuffle with one of Singlas’s neighbours, who wanted to enter the house, but was not allowed to do so.

It took the CBI team nearly half-an-hour to gain entry into the palatial four-kanal house no. 105. Soon after news of Singla’s arrest spread like wildfire, print and electronic media surrounded the house around 11 pm. A good number of mediapersons were still present there when this report was filed around midnight.

Chandigarh BJP chief Sanjay Tandon said, “the time has come for the UPA to go. The people of the country are ready to elect a new government and we will hold a protest in this regard on Saturday.”

Former member of Parliament and senior BJP leader Satya Pal Jain has demanded the sacking of Pawan Kumar Bansal as railway minister. “Vijay Singla has been working under the patronage of Bansal,” he alleged.
