Former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda's brother Govind Kumar moved Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday, claiming that Delhi police were harassing his family and relatives by conducting raids at various places, even outside their jurisdiction in Sirsa and Gurgaon.
Taking up the petition seeking protection of life and liberty, the bench headed by justice Nawab Singh issued notices of motion to the home secretaries of Delhi and Haryana, deputy commissioner of police of north-west Delhi and SHO of Bharatnagar police station, New Delhi, to submit their replies before September 25.
A Delhi court had on Thursday issued non-bailable warrants against Gopal Kanda, who is allegedly absconding after facing the charge of abetting suicide of former air hostess of the now-defunct Murali Dhar Lakhpat Rai (MDLR) airline, Geetika Sharma (23).
Sharma was found hanging on August 5 at her house in north Delhi's Ashok Vihar. She had left a suicide note with allegations of cheating and harassment against Gopal Kanda and his employee Aruna Chaddha.
A resident of Sirsa, Govind Kumar Kanda, sought the directions from the high court to authorities concerned to protect the life and liberty of his family and relatives, alleging that Delhi police were harassing them by picking them from homes and taking them to the national capital. He further alleged that they were illegally detained.
The petitioner also sought directions to authorities not to arrest any family member/relative without giving prior notice. The court was also requested that different authorities be directed to only conduct searches and raids at their homes in Sirsa, Gurgaon and other places after obtaining proper search warrants from competent authority. He also submitted that no women police officers were part of the raiding teams of Delhi police even as there were womenfolk in his family.
