After nearly two years of killing his wife over illicit relations, additional district and sessions judge Anshu Shukla, presiding over a special court for crime against women, on Tuesday pronounced the husband and his girlfriend guilty of murder.
The court would pronounce quantum of sentence against the convicts -Vijender Singh, a resident of Sector 20, and Renu (28), who hails from Bhagtupur village in Hoshiarpur, on August 29. The duo was held guilty of killing Pooja, 32, in July 2012.
The Chandigarh Police on July 18, 2012, had arrested Vijender on the allegations of murdering his wife Pooja, in connivance with his girlfriend Renu and then dumping her body at Bhagtupur village in Hoshiarpur after burning it.
Vijender was arrested following the murder allegations levelled by the victim's brother, Prem Chand, a resident of Rampur Bushahr in Shimla district, and worked as a computer data operator at Khuda Alisher.
The prosecution had alleged that Vijender was having an affair with Renu, who was also present at the time of the murder in Sector 9, and the two had conspired to kill Pooja.
As per allegations, Vijender, employed at a fast-food joint at Sector 35, had on July 13 approached the police saying that his wife had gone missing. He had married Pooja in July 2008 and couple had a four-year-old daughter.

{{/usCountry}}The convicts had given Pooja a heavy dose of sedative and had strangulated her thrice while on the way to Hoshiarpur from Chandigarh in a car.
