In a fresh twist to the ongoing trial of the murder of Manisha Singh Thakur, 20, daughter of Sector 22-based Nukkar Dhaba owner, who had died of drug overdose, her family has now moved application seeking murder charges against the accused.
Through an application moved before the court on Friday, victim's father Joginder Singh through his counsel, Munish Dewan, submitted that accused Dilpreet Singh, 22, used to threaten Manisha of eliminating her, as was revealed through the data retrieved from her mobile phone.
Dewan alleged that Manisha's death was a well-planned and to pass it off as murder, the accused gave her drug overdose.
Interestingly, the data of Manisha's mobile phone was retrieved on the application of Dilpreet seeking details of SMS, WhatsAapp exchanges and calls.
Manisha, who was pursuing an architecture course at an institute in Sector 34, was found dead in a drain on the Rajpura Road near Shambhu barrier in Haryana on October 21 last year. During investigation, the police narrowed on to her friend Rajat Beniwal, 21, who told the police that he, Manisha, another friend Kamal, and Dilpreet, with whom Manisha was in a relationship, were consuming heroin inside his car in SAS Nagar when Manisha died, apparently due to drug overdose.
The police claimed that accused Rajat, Kamal and Dilpreet panicked when Manisha died and decided to put the body in the car, drove it to an isolated place near the Shambhu border, and dumped the body in a drain.

{{/usCountry}}Manisha's body was found from the place identified by Rajat. Kamal was arrested from his residence in Sector 56 and Dilpreet from Phase 10 in SAS Nagar. Rajat, a resident of Sector 51, is a student of the evening college at Panjab University, Kamal runs a dhaba in Sector 37-D and Dilpreet is studying interior designing.
They are facing trial for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
