Demanding 50 more seats for MBBS course of Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, hundreds of medical aspirants, along with their parents, staged a protest at a public park in Sector 33-C on Sunday.
The medical aspirants demanded union government's intervention in increasing 50 more seats to the college. "There is no doubt that GMCH is the best college in
northern India. It has good infrastructure and faculty. It is unfortunate that they are being given just 50 seats for MBBS,"said Harbir Singh Sekhon, whose son is appearing for MBBS in NRI quota.
Sekhon added that the private colleges, which lack proper infrastructure, have been given around 150 to 200 MBBS seats.
After the demonstration, the protesters went to Delhi. The medical aspirants, along with local member of Parliament (MP) Kirron Kher, will meet union health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan. They will also submit a memorandum to the Medical Council of India.
