'Need to spread awareness regarding free legal aid'

Addressing mediapersons here on Tuesday, Punjab and Haryana high court judge and the executive chairman of HSLSA justice SK Mittal said that the authority was providing free legal aid to the families having an annual income below Rs 1.5 lakh, children,

women, ex-servicemen, prisoners, accused etc. He said that the main motive of the authority was to ensure legal rights of the people. The authority had been organising lok adalats to settle pending cases of the people with their consent. He stressed on the need for spreading awareness regarding legal services so that more and more people could be benefited.

Justice Mittal disclosed that 63,000 lok adalats had been organised during the last three years, in which 8 lakh cases were disposed of. The authority provided legal aid to one-lakh
persons.

Deputy commissioner NK Solanki said that the awareness regarding free legal aid was being spread through the night

camps being organised by the district administration.
