Even though the sun was out today, the icy cold winds that continued in the valley led to a drop of three notches in the night temperature against yesterday.

The upper heights in the Kashmir valley experienced fresh snowfall yesterday while many other areas including plains witnessed rains resulting in a drop in the temperature.

A Met department spokesman said there could be rain or snow at isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

He said Gulmarg recorded minus 8 degree minimum temperature this morning, three notches below yesterday because of fresh snow in upper reaches. Against yesterdays minus five degree it was minus 8 degree this morning.

Health resort of Pahalgam base camp of Holy Amarnath cave in south Kashmir also recorded a 9 degree drop in the night temperature. Met spokesman said the minimum this morning was minus 6 degree against yesterday's 0.8 degree.
