Providing an overview of the recent trends in cyber crime in the city, inspector of cyber cell Jasbir Singh said fake Facebook profiles, and obscene posts and pictures topped the list of cybercrimes in Chandigarh.

He said investigations had revealed that the youth often committed these crimes without
comprehending their legal complications. He further said in most cases, the issue would be resolved by getting the accused to delete the fake profiles and the objectionable text and/or pictures, and by convincing the two parties to settle on a compromise.

The inspector claimed that of the 400 complaints related to cyber crimes, only 30 complaints were pending for further investigation (as on November 23).

The cyber crime cell of the city has also received complaints of misuse of credit and debit cards.
