Following a clash between residents of two villages over a love marriage, the police booked the bride’s brother as well as a score of other villagers on charges of attempted murder, kid-napping with the intent to murder and rioting with a dead-ly weapons and criminal intimidation late on Tues-day night.
Sushma Devi, 19, who lives in Mohliwala village, eloped with Rinku Pal, 21, a resident of Rampur village, and got married recently.
They later went sought protection from an Ambala court, which allowed them to stay at a protection house for four days.
Devi’s parents then filed a case of abduction against Pal and his family members. With the police investigating the case, Devi was told to get her statement recorded in a Panchkula court.
As the couple set off for the court in a rented SUV, they were reportedly chased by the girl’s family members and other villagers.
When the latter tried to stop the vehicle and attack the couple, they had to flee.
