The UT vigilance department has rounded up a Class IV employee, a sweeper, Rakesh, at the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) branch in Sector 17 for allegedly charging money for depositing files out-of-turn.
A network of touts is suspected to be behind the racket. The vigilance department acted on a complaint from a resident, Mehakdeep. He had recorded the video of the sweeper submitting a file out-of-turn.
Later in the evening, a case was also registered against the sweeper. Sources in the RLA office said the complainant Mehakdeep came across an agent, who offered to get the file of his sister's learner licence deposited. The agent claimed the file could be deposited out-of-turn by charging money.
When contacted, inspector (vigilance) Gurjeet Kaur stated that a case had been registered and an investigation had been initiated. Some action may also be taken against the sweeper.
