The deteriorated condition of the road at different locations from Manali to Rohtang Pass due to constant landslides and melting of snow in the region, putting commuters’ journey in trouble, has led to this decision.

Talking with Hindustan Times, Vinay Singh, subdivisional magistrate (SDO), Manali said, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) authority, which maintains the road from Manali to Rohtang and opens it for vehicular traffic every year after winter season, requested the local administration to stop tourist vehicles beyond Vashishth every Tuesday, as it would give them time for maintenance of the road in the region.

More than 2,000 vehicles ply on the road from Manali to Rohtang Pass everyday.

This chocks the road completely, leaving the commuters stranded for hours in traffic jam.

Singh said, “BRO authority is working hard to maintain the road for the comfort of the travellers.

The closer of tourist vehicles for one day will give them enough time to do the maintenance work.”

The road from Manali to Rohtang Pass does not have the capacity to handle such traffic, due to which the commuters get trapped in jam for hours.
