Sumedh Singh Saini, a 1982-batch IPS officer, today took over as Punjab Director General of Police. Saini took charge from Anil Kaushik.

Senior officers of Punjab Police were present on the occasion.

On his arrival at the Punjab Police headquarters, Saini was given a ceremonial guard of honour by a contingent of Punjab Armed Police.
After the formal take-over, a guard of honour was also given to outgoing DGP Kaushik.
Immediately after assuming charge, Saini held a meeting with senior officers from various wings of Punjab Police. Saini called upon the officers to launch an all-out drive to curb crime in general and menace of drug-trafficking in particular.
