As the UT administration decided to suspend the release of film Nanak Shah Fakir in Chandigarh for two months, producer Harinder Sikka on Friday termed the decision taken by the administration unfortunate.
This comes after the film was earlier suspended in Punjab but was allowed to be screened in Chandigarh on April 17. This sudden suspension has come as a disappointment for the film crew.
Sikka said, “
Koi gal nai
(its fine) but these knee jerk reactions are in extremely bad taste. The government authorities can’t succumb to the demands of the fringe groups . It's so unfortunate to see the government authorities bowing down to the pressure of Sikh radical groups. This is definitely not a healthy sign for any state or community.”
Inspite of the suspension of the movie in Punjab and Chandigarh, there are Sikh hardliners and religious leaders who are seeking its ban across the country. However, Sikka overrules the possibility saying, “This is not possible as Punjab is bounded by some compulsions, but not other states.”
In this ongoing tussle, the viewers have suffered due to this suspension. “Handful of people cannot take decision on what others should see. Those who want to watch the movie can see it at Panchkula,” said the producer.
