Interestingly, it’s not just the employees at the bottom of the ladder, but even an executive engineer of the electrical division number 3 who knocked the doors of the consumer forum.

Gulshan Kumar, working as a chaukidar with the UT administration, was allotted a house in Sector 28 in November 2014, but his repeated requests for repair of the house fell on deaf ears. The house allotted to him did not have window panes and wooden frames were missing. Besides, tiles of the floor and kitchen were broken.

Tired of making repeated requests for carrying out repair work in the house to make it ‘liveable”, Gulshan moved the consumer forum in January 2015 against the secretary of house allotment committee, executive engineer of capital project division number 3, executive engineer of public health division number 3 and sub-divisional engineer.

Gulshan’s complaint would now come up for hearing on March 27.

Similarly, Naresh Kumar, executive engineer of the electrical division number 3, too had to move the consumer forum on December 19, 2014, seeking directions to the department for getting the house allotted to him repaired.

Naresh was allotted a house in October 2013 in Sector 22, Chandigarh, whose floor, windows, doors and stairs needed repair. But his repeated request to the department failed to yield any result. He said owing to dampness, one room on the first floor could not be used. Besides, he had to even spend Rs 12,000 from his pocket to get the leaking roof above the stairs repaired.

It was the notice of consumer forum which forced the department to undertake relevant repairs following which Naresh on February 2 withdrew his complaint.
