Employees of various departments of UT and municipal corporation (MC) Chandigarh, under the banner of Coordination Committee of Government and MC, staged a protest at Sector 17 here on Thursday.
The protest was held in pursuance of the call of week-long protests by the coordination committee.
The chain protest is being held in support of the long-pending demands of the employees, including regularisation of services of daily wages and work charge workers without any preconditions, implementation of employees provident fund (EPF), employees' state insurance (ESI) and pension scheme, offer of appointment to the next kin of deceased employees by scrapping 5 % ceiling, filling up vacant posts at all departments, scrapping proposed privatisation of government and semi-government department, abolishing contract system and outsourcing, giving `6950 in addition to basic pay to all the class-four employees, including daily wagers, allotment of flats to all employees under UT Employees Self Financing Housing Scheme 2008, providing uniform leave travel allowance (LTA) to all class field staff.
The members demanded Chandigarh administration to issue the regularisation order of all work charge and daily wage workers without any preconditions as the workers were working since around 20-25 years. The coordination committee will also stage a dharna on Friday at Bridge Market, Sector 17.
