The inter-state regional plan is likely to be worked upon with Chandigarh and the states of Punjab and Haryana coming together on agreeable terms and conditions.
In a high level meeting of the urban planning department in New Delhi on Friday, it was decided that these states would discuss the modalities for a regional plan soon.
The development is significant as now these states will come together to discuss objections and differences, which led to delay of the regional plan. There have been difference of opinions on various issues but now with these states and UT administration coming together to work on the regional plan, these are likely to be addressed.
Following the meeting, it was decided that the chief secretaries of Punjab and Haryana, and UT adviser would meet in the coming months to discuss the viability of the regional plan, which will cover inter-state development issues like transport, water, sewage and power supply.
The need to come up with a regional plan was being talked about keeping in view some illegal constructions in the periphery of Chandigarh, which were going unchecked.

Meanwhile, the official copy of the Chandigarh Master Plan-2031, cleared by the ministry of home affairs, will be sent to the UT administration by April first week.
