Even as model code of conduct in view of the Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) came into force on Wednesday evening, vehicles were seen zooming around the campus with printed material pasted on them and posters were still seen at several locations at the university on Thursday.
PU authorities had announced that all posters would be removed and no vehicle would be allowed to enter the campus with printed posters of parties pasted on it.
PU had also announced that posters pasted even on designated sites would also be removed.
Student Federation of India (SFI) president Prabhpreet Singh said the university should take strict action against violators. “Not only old posters, the places which were cleared by authorities during night, have again been plastered with posters,” Singh said.
Some leaders were also of the view that orders were issued in a jiffy. They demanded that authorities should give more time to parties to remove the posters. “All posters cannot be removed immediately. The university should have given some time for removing them. These are not one or two locations, the designated sites are spread across both the campuses,” said Sukhjot Singh, campus president, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

The moment the code of conduct comes into force, posters have to be removed. I have been told of new posters being pasted on some locations. The violators would be dealt with sternly,” Navdeep Goyal, dean student welfare, said. He also said police would impound vehicles found with posters of parties at the gates itself.
