The Punjab and Haryana high court on Monday issued notices of motion to the union ministry of information and broadcasting and central board of film certification on a petition seeking ban on two ‘vulgar songs’ of the upcoming Bollywood movie ‘The Shaukeens’, alleging that the songs tempted the youth to take drugs and alcohol.
However, taking up a petition filed by a non-government organisation Arrive Safe Society, the division bench comprising acting chief justice Ashutosh Mohunta and justice Anupinder Singh Grewal refused to issue a stay on the songs for the time being since the songs were already in public domain for quite some time.
‘The Shaukeens’ starring Akshay Kumar and Lisa Haydon is slated to be released on November 7.
The songs have lines “Haan main alcoholic hoon..” sung by Yo Yo Honey Singh and “Badla mizaaj mera phookte hi grass” sung by Neha Kakkar and Lil Golu.
The court was informed that it was the belief of the petitioner organisation that these songs would further tempt both men and women to try alcohol or drugs and further deteriorate the society’s moral standards.
The petitioner also informed the court that both songs were viral on the internet and sought the songs’ ban because of the “vulgar lyrics and the video”.
